Donald ShifrinHaving accrued nearly four decades of expertise, Donald L. Shifrin, MD has excelled in pediatric medicine beginning in the late 1970s. Over the years, he has provided superior care as a senior physician with Allegro Pediatrics in Bellevue, Washington from 1978 to 2017 and as a clinical assistant professor, clinical associate professor and clinical professor of pediatrics with the University of Washington from 1978 to 2020, where he is now a professor emeritus. He specializes in pediatric trauma, orthopedics and gastroenterology, as well as working with children with autism.

Alongside his primary roles, Dr. Shifrin served the American Academy of Pediatrics as a media spokesperson from 1988 to 2020 as a trusted media resource regarding Academy policies and pediatric issues. His “A Minute for Kids” radio public service announcements focusing on childhood health issues and advocating to optimize children’s health have been heard on many media outlets since 1997. In addition, Dr. Shifrin has been a consultant for KING TV since 2017 and chair of the Maimonides Society, Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle since 2000.

Dr. Shifrin earned a Bachelor of Science in invertebrate zoology and chemistry at the University of Washington in 1970 and continued his education with a Doctor of Medicine from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1974. Subsequently, he served a residency and chief residency in general pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles between 1974 and 1978. In 1981, he became certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. Today, Dr. Shifrin is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, as well as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society and Alpha Epsilon Delta National Premedical Honor Society.

Reflecting on his career thus far, Dr. Shifrin was the recipient of a Seattle Children Hospital’s Richard A. Molteni Award for Professionalism and Quality for a Community Pediatrician in 2016. Additionally, he was named Best Pediatrician by 425 Magazine in 2009 and 2012, the recipient of an AAP Holroyd-Sherry National Award in 2009 and listed to Washington State Magazine’s Washington’s Best Doctors in 2008. Earlier, he took home a President’s Award from the Washington Chapter of AAP in 1992 and a Seattle Family Services Founders Volunteer Award in 1993.
